Elizabeth L Resor

I am a critical scholar of sociotechnical systems in practice and in place. I use qualitative methods to research how local context informs technology use and implementation, on the scale of users and institutions.
I received my PhD in Information Science from the UC Berkeley School of Information in August 2024. My dissertation, Scoring Space: How home-seekers make sense of place, platforms, and metrics, investigated how people in Las Vegas, NV and Oakland, CA searched for housing online with real estate platforms (e.g. Zillow, Redfin) and other online tools (e.g. Yelp, Google Reviews, Reddit).
Prior to pursuing my PhD, I worked in global development in Nairobi, Kenya for several years. My work focused on transportation planning and the use of social media data, including creating Nairobi’s first map of traffic accidents. I have a Master of City Planning from MIT.
